Giga AES cores

Overview

An increasing number of applications demand AES encryption data rates which only a few years ago seemed unreachable. Helion believe that despite the technical challenges, it should not be the encryption processing which limits your performance. With this in mind, solutions developed by Helion allow customers to achieve throughputs in excess of 200 Gbps using today's ASIC and FPGA technologies, without using excessive silicon resources.

Helion Giga AES Solutions

The Helion Giga AES core family is our very highest rate AES solution aimed at applications requiring tens, or hundreds, of Gigabits per second throughput. What sets our Giga AES solution apart is its total scalability, so you can choose exactly the amount of processing power that your application requires. The result is a core optimised for use in the latest ASIC and FPGA technologies that minimises logic resources and power whilst hitting your target.

The Giga AES family forms a very powerful and flexible platform which can be specified to support 128-bit and/or 256-bit AES key sizes. Supported cipher modes include CTR (Counter Mode), plus more complex options such as AES-XTS mode used in storage applications, and AES-GCM mode which is often used for Optical and Wired Networking. Note that an application specific solution aimed at Optical Networking is also available from Helion. Full details can be found on our Optical page.

The tables above show example configurations of the Helion Giga AES-CTR and AES-GCM cores scaled for popular performance points in high-end FPGA technologies. These metrics are a small subset of the options made possible by the flexibility of the Giga AES platform. Its scalability can enable high rates even in slower low-cost FPGAs by using more logic area.

Helion Giga AES cores are available for use in ASIC, or Altera and Xilinx FPGA, covering all current FPGA device types. In common with all Helion IP cores they have been designed with each technology firmly in mind to yield the very best and most efficient results possible.
